Around Nîmes

Located 12 kms north-east of Nimes and designated a
UNESCO World Heritage Site, the  Pont du Gard was part of an
extensive Roman network of aqueducts, underground pipes and tunnels
which ran from Uzès in the north to Nîmes in the south

Uzès is a charming medieval town 25 kms north of Nîmes. Its picturesque
environs include aristocratic old mansions, the Duché - a vast feudal building
built between the 12th and 16th centuries - vaulted squares and the
Cathédrale de St. Theodorit.  A great place to sit and watch the world go by!

Avignon - the entrance to the Luberon and the City of the Popes - lies
40kms north-east of Nimes.  Once the capital of the medieval world and home
of the Pope, it is a visually stunning town with much to see, including the Pope's
Palace, 13th and 14th century walls, St. Benezet's Bridge (the one in the well
known French nursery rhyme!) and a world-renowned annual Theatre Festival

Aigues-Morts, the 13th Century port town lies 36 km
south west of Nîmes, and is dominated by its imposing
ramparts.  A town steeped in history from the Crusades to
the One Hundred Years War, it has a bustling old town
with quaint streets and many restaurants

Regularly voted one of France's most beautiful villages,
Gordes is a stunning medieval village perched on the
southern edge of the high Plateau de Vaucluse

The unspoilt beaches of the Mediterranean
lie 40 kms - a 30-minute drive - south of Nîmes

The beaches also feature a number of "Plages Privées" during
the summer season, offering a range of facilities including bars,
restaurants and sun beds to rent by the day or half-day

The Camargue is a short drive from Nîmes, and apart
from its famous white horses, is a haven for bird watchers
